Respected colleagues and friends,
..............................................................................................
I have the particular honour to address you as a host and as president of the International Mosaic Congress of AIMC. As you already know, at the previous, ninth consecutive, Congress of AIMC that was held in Melbourne, Australia (27-31 October 2004), the Republic of Macedonia was chosen as host to the Tenth Annual Congress.
Bearing in mind the rich tradition of my country and its great cultural heritage and tradition in the field of mosaic art, we have decided that the topic of this Congress be ‘MOSAIC WORKSHOPS: east - west relations from ancient times to the present.’
The Congress will last five days. The Museum of Contemporary Art, as one of the institutions of highest repute in the region, will be hosting all participants during their five-day stay.
The members of this year’s Congress will present papers on the following subtopics:
1. Ancient times;
2. The Early Christian period;
3. Modern mosaics in sacred buildings;
4. Mosaics and Architecture;
5. Mosaics and Art.
It is planned that the first part of the Congress will take the form of lectures and presentations by eminent professors which will promote the Macedonian cultural heritage and the development of mosaic as an art technique in the Republic of Macedonia throughout the centuries. The second and third parts will be devoted to individual presentations and achievements in this field.
During the Congress there will be an exhibition of posters showing the works of the participating artists. A catalogue containing the presented papers and reproductions will be published. A collaborative mosaic of appropriate proportions, consisting of the pieces of work you bring with you, will be mounted during the Congress.
So, please allow me to give you a warm welcome once again and to invite you to participate in the Tenth Annual Congress of AIMC in Skopje, the Republic of Macedonia. I cordially hope that your stay in Macedonia will justify your confidence and live up to the expectations of all my respected colleagues, the organisers, the members of AIMC, and the patrons of the Congress - the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Macedonia and UNESCO.

X. AIMC Congress in Macedonia
..............................................................................................
At the last congress in Australia the AIMC general assembly was very pleased with the announcement of Gazanfer Bajram that Macedonia is willing to carry out the next congress in 200, in a country with an important and long tradition of mosaic.
On last October in Ravenna Gazanfer, as the president of the congress to come, has made a wonderful presentation of the different preparation phases to the board of directors in showing the numerous contacts with the macedonian cultural and state authorities in order to organise this symposium in Skopje best possible.
In this connection the AIMC directory want to express its gratitude towards the Museum of Contemporary Art, and the IKON-Association for Culture of Macedonia for the enormous aid to Gazanfer Bajram in the upcoming preparation works to make this event possible. Now in February all detailed dates necessary will be together in order to inform all AIMC members and other interested people in our web site and in a special bulletin .
As president of the AIMC I'm looking forward to this event from 12-17 September 2006 in Skopje, in the hope that many of you might make it possible to join this congress with curious interest full of expectations, but also to become acquainted with a wonderful, small country in Europe by a following planed sightseeing tour of several days duration.

Manfred Hoehn
President.
